September 28, 2018 • National Union Building • Washington, D.C.
Course Description
Millennials, iGen, GenZ, Digital Natives? Technology and social media have transformed the social and cultural landscape over the past decade creating a different set of challenges for emerging adults. However, technology is not the only factor in the healthy development of emerging adults. Mental Health Care for Emerging Adults is a one-day conference designed to highlight the unique needs of emerging adults. Presentations will address innovative approaches to mental health treatment, social media and suicide, the experience of families/patients in the system, technology and treatment and community based approaches to health care, and working with transgendered youth. By the end of the conference, participants will have increased knowledge about the dynamics and developmental milestones of emerging adults and increased awareness of the distinct nature of this age group and ways in which treatment approaches can be tailored to better meet the needs of this population.
Conference attendees included hospital-based physicians, community physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, psychologists, psychiatrists, guidance counselors, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team interested in adolescent and emerging adult mental health.
